When you buy insurance, you transfer the cost of a potential loss to the insurance company in exchange for a fee, known as the premium. However, carrier liability provides very limited coverage, and anything from natural disasters to vehicle accidents or even acts of war could damage your cargo.
There are a few restrictions when it comes to the type of goods being transported. Very few exclusions are inherent in a typical marine transit insurance policy for household goods.
